To address patterns of challenging student behaviors, we may need to shift our approach. Rather than focusing on how to stop problem behaviors, begin by identifying what we want to teach the student to do instead. When teaching students appropriate replacement behaviors, we are helping them learn better ways to self-manage and meet their needs.
