Grouping and Managing Target Behaviors

Behavior Advantage allows users to "Group" multiple Target Behaviors, so that several Target Behaviors can be assessed and/or behavior planned together (e.g., as in a Response Class:  For more information on when to use this feature see https://behavior-advantage-apps.document360.io/docs/en/target-behaviors).

Enable Grouping

  • Within a student's FBA/BIP or Simple BIP file, select Target Behaviors on the menu to the left

  • Select and operationally define more than one Target Behavior
  • Click on the green Enable Grouping button

  • Select the Target Behaviors you would like to group and assess together by clicking the check boxes to the left of each Target Behavior [Note: You can group several Target Behaviors and still assess individual Target Behaviors separately, by leaving them unchecked.]

  • Use the Up and Down arrows to the right of each Target Behavior to adjust the order of selected Target Behaviors, as you want them to appear on the printed report.
  • Click Save

Assess and Behavior Plan Grouped Behaviors

  • Now that you have Grouped several Target Behaviors together, use the blue Target Behavior Drop Down in the FBA, BIP, or Simple BIP menu to the left

  • Select "Grouped Target Behaviors" from this blue drop down to assess or behavior plan the selected group of Target Behaviors together.
  • As you enter FBA, BIP, or Simple BIP data, this information will apply to the Grouped Behaviors in the program and on your printed report
  • Note:  You can also continue to assess and behavior plan on any individual Target Behavior (even if it's part of a Group) by using this blue Behavior drop down to select a specific target behavior, and then entering the FBA, BIP, or Simple BIP information specific to that single target behavior (see Example below).

Example

  • The School Psychologist wants to conduct an FBA and design a BIP on 3 grouped target behaviors (aggression, vocal or verbal outbursts, and work refusal).  So she follows the steps above to Enable Grouping and combine all behaviors into one group.
  • She uses Behavior Advantage to document her FBA findings on the Grouped Target Behaviors and uses the BIP tab to design a behavior plan on those same Grouped Target Behaviors.
  • However, she wants to recommend 1 Prevention Strategy and 2 Response Strategies specific to aggression and separate from the Grouped Target Behaviors.
  • So, she uses the blue Behavior drop down button, in the menu on the left, to select Aggression, and then uses the BIP tab to recommend those strategies specific only to Aggression.
  • These aggression recommendations will show up at the end of her report in an aggression specific section.
