Progress Monitoring & Practical Data Collection: Easy Ways to Track Target Behaviors
Positive behavior interventions and plans are generally trying to decrease problem behaviors and increase appropriate behaviors. Therefore, our data collection tools should focus on measuring and monitoring whether there is any change in these target behaviors over time. In general, a decrease in problem behaviors would mean that these behaviors are becoming less frequent and shorter in duration. Similarly, an increase in appropriate behaviors would mean that these behaviors are becoming more frequent and/or longer in duration. Frequency, duration, and rating scales are all practical data collection tools that can help teams progress monitor student behaviors over time.
